  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Directions:

  2. Microwave butter in a small, microwave safe bowl until melted. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, season salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Pour butter mixture over cereal and stir until pieces are thoroughly coated.
  4. Microwave the cereal mixture on high for 5 or 6 minutes; stir every two minutes. Spread mixture on paper towels until cool.
  5. Store in an air-tight container.

Note: Make the mix sweet and savory by adding 1 cup of honey roasted mixed nuts after it comes out of the microwave.

Substantial Big Game Snack: Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

Skip the traditional wings and indulge in boneless chicken satay. This super-hearty football day snack gets a punch of flavor when served with a small bowl of peanut sauce. Chicken Satay Skewers

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, fresh squeezed or bottled
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • Dash of hot pepper sauce (or a few dashes if you like it spicy)
  • 12 chicken tenders
  • 12 wooden skewers (soaked in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning)

Peanut Sauce Ingredients:

  • 3 heaping tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 7 ounces canned coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice, fresh squeezed or bottled

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the first six ingredients for the skewers. Add chicken tenders and toss to coat; cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least two hours, or up to overnight.
  2. While the chicken marinates, combine all of the sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate until needed.
  3. When chicken has finished marinating, thread each tender on a skewer and place the skewers on a plate.
  4. Heat a grill or griddle and brush with oil or non-stick spray. Grill chicken skewers, turning a few times, until they’re golden brown and register at an internal temperature of 165° at the thickest part.
  5. Plate the cooked skewers and serve with a dish of the satay peanut sauce.

Sweet Endings: Chocolate Peanut Clusters

These sweet chocolate peanut cluster snacks almost look like little footballs. For extra fun, melt white chocolate and create “laces” to give them a sporty appearance.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups salted peanuts
  • 10 ounces milk chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Melt chocolate chips in a large microwave safe bowl; stir after each 30 second interval.
  2.  Add the peanuts and stir to combine.
  3. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and drop spoonfuls of mixture and inch apart. Tip: A cookie scoop makes this step easier.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator or freezer until set.

Tip: If making white chocolate laces, remove clusters from the refrigerator or freezer and get creative! Put melted white chocolate in a zip-top bag; snip one corner and “draw” laces on each cluster. Return clusters to the refrigerator until laces are set.

Anytime Snack: Slow Cooker Boiled Peanuts

It doesn’t get any easier than this one. Boiled peanuts are a classic southern treat, and they are perfect before, during, and after the game. Be sure you use raw peanuts for this one, not standard roasted or flavored varieties.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine peanuts, salt, and 14 cups of water in a 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on HIGH for 18 hours or until peanuts are soft, but not mushy.
  3. Drain peanuts and serve.
  4. Store leftovers in zip-top plastic bags for up to two weeks.
